OCTOBER 2005 PRESS RELEASES

SAFE KIDS and FedEx Express Host “Walk to School Safely” Event

Date:  October 4, 2005

SAFE KIDS of the Magic Valley and FedEx Express will conduct a “Walk this Way” walk-to-school parade and education event as part of International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 5 from 7:30 a.m – 8:10 a.m.

The parade to school will meet at the corner of Ridgeway and Sparks Avenue in Twin Falls. Children and parents are invited to walk to school with local mascots (the Twin Falls High School Bruin Bear, the I.B. Perrine Panther, and the Robert Stuart Junior High Bear), as well as I.B. Perrine Elementary teachers, Principle Bill Brulotte, other local officials, and employees of FedEx and the SAFE KIDS Coalition, and policemen from the Twin Falls Police Department.

Pedestrian injury remains the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths among children ages 5 to 14. Each year in the United States, more that 658 children ages 14 and under die from pedestrian-related injuries. International Walk to School Day and Magic Valley SAFE KIDS activities are designed to help educate children and families about the importance of pedestrian safety.
