Diabetes Expo 2005 Features Free TrialNet Risk Screening

The Diabetes Center Foundation proudly announces Diabetes Expo 2005 will be held on Saturday, October 29 at Jerome High School. This one-day educational event is free to the public and designed for persons with diabetes, their families, and people who want to learn more about the disease. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Between 8:30 – 3 p.m. there will also be a free TrialNet Risk Screening for families with Type 1 Diabetes. TrialNet (an international network of experts) will screen relatives of individuals with Type 1 Diabetes to find out if they are at risk for developing the disease themselves. Screening involves a simple blood test. You are eligible to participate if you are:
-
1-45 years with a sibling, child or parent with Type 1 diabetes or,
-
1-20 years with a cousin, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, grandparent or half-sibling with Type 1 diabetes.
NOTE: Because TrialNet will test for multiple autoantibodies associate with Type 1 diabetes; eligible family members are encouraged to be re-screened even if they were tested under DPT-1
Presentations and break out sessions will be held between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Topics include:

10:00 – 10:50 a.m. “Preventing and Treating Diabetic Kidney Disease” – Rob Jones MD Professor ~ University of Utah Department of Endocrine and Metabolism
