2nd Annual Race to Safety Benefits Magic Valley Safe Kids
Date: January 9, 2006
For the second year in a row, National Child Passenger Safety Week in Twin Falls has a new reason to buckle up! The Magic Valley Safe Kids Coalition and Modern Woodmen of America have partnered for the second annual Nazz Kart fundraising event, the Modern Woodmen of America “Race to Safety.” The event is slated for Tuesday, February 7 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Nazz Kart Indoor Race Track, 302 3rd Avenue South, Twin Falls.
Nazz Kart teams sponsored by area businesses will race in two heats and ultimately for the championship and grand prize, a “Race to Safety” Trophy Helmet. Last year the winning team was TJ Products and DK Flooring, made up of TJ Woodall, Mike Ermentrout, Dan Koyle and John Pierce. In second place was Magic Valley Pipe,
and third place went to Air Power Unlimited and EHM Engineers.
But the biggest winners were the children of Magic Valley. In the first annual event more than $6000 was raised to benefit the programs and services of the Magic Valley Safe Kids Coalition. Special thanks to Modern Woodmen of America who have again committed to match – dollar for dollar – all donations up to $2500 in 2006.
Team sponsors are still available by calling the Safe Kids Office at 737-2432. The entry fees are: $500 for a four-person team and $250 for a two-person team. Safe Kids Director Page Geske stated that this year she hopes the event will generate twice as much community support as in 2005. “People don’t often realize that the number one killer of children ages 1-14 years is unintentional injury.
This event raises awareness of Child Passenger Safety and the proceeds benefit programs and services that have been shown to reduce injuries and death in our communities.” According to national statistics, since the founding of Safe Kids in 1987, there has been a 43% decline in unintentional injury and death in children ages 1-14.
