What's New at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center

JANUARY 2006 PRESS RELEASES

NuParent Parenting Classes: New Series Begins January 31, 2006

Date: January 27, 2006

Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, sponsor of NuParent parenting classes, announces the first series of 2006 begins Tuesday, January 31 at 6:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension (371 Eastland Drive North in Twin Falls). This fun, playful, parenting program will kick off with a special presentation on child development by pediatrician, Greg Jones MD. Classes will follow, once a week for 8 weeks, each Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the same location. NuParent classes are free to the public through a grant from the MVRMC Community Health Improvement Fund. Pre-registration is required. To sign up, call 737-2092.

NuParent is a parent development program that balances a focus on the needs of children with a focus on the needs of adults. Parents of babies and toddlers are encouraged to participate. Because NuParent programs are designed for a relatively narrow age range of children, parents have the opportunity to interact with people at the same parenting stage. This also helps the group stay focused on issues directly related to the developmental stages of their children. Topics include health and safety, parenting styles, nurturing, playing and guiding your baby, infant massage, and much more. Its unique structure provides time in each session for a parent/child activity, a knowledge-building exercise, and a parent support group.

“NuParent is designed to meet the needs of parents who voluntarily seek to be the best parent they can be through the support of parent education resources,” said Susan Beck, the instructor for the series of classes. “While parenting has always been challenging, it is particularly so at the beginning of the 21st Century.

The fast pace of modern life, rapid advances in technology, and new global perspectives help to suggest that parents are now, more than ever, raising children for a future we cannot even imagine.”
