This year’s
theme “Night of the Stars” features a presentation by the Magic Valley Boys &
Girls Clubs Youth of the Year, Sonia Garcia. Sonia attends Robert Stuart Junior
High School and is in the eighth grade. She has attended the Boys & Girls Clubs
of Magic Valley for six years and has participated in many of their activities.
She has been a Junior Staff member for three years completing over 200 hours of
volunteer service to the Club. She attends with her two brothers Eddie and Ivan
Garcia. “Sonia is a very polite, nice young lady that all of the other Club
members look up to. She is a very good role model.” says Robyn Lowe, Branch
Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley. “The Reader’s Digest
Foundation has been the proud sponsor of the Youth of the Year program for 59
years,” said Susan Fraysse Russ, executive director, Reader’s Digest
Foundation. “We are thrilled that we can honor amazing teens like Sonia Garcia
for their dedication and hard work.”
The Dinner and Auction
coincides with the 21st Annual Oasis 2-person Best Ball Golf
Tournament, also benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs. Golfers and their spouses
may attend “Night of the Stars” Dinner & Auction at reduced cost ($30 each for
golfer and spouse, all others $40 each.)
The tournament
which is played on three of the area’s finest courses -- Clear Lakes Country
Club in Buhl, Canyon Springs Golf Course in Twin Falls, and Blue Lakes Country
Club in Twin Falls -- boasts the largest cash payout of any tournament in the
Magic Valley. The cost is $140 per team for a maximum of 250 teams -- mens,
womens, and couples flights. Current USGA Handicap Card required. Teams may
enter at Canyon Springs Golf Course or by calling 208-734-7609.
The mission of
the Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley is to inspire and enable all young
people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full
potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
