Electroencephalography (EEG) is a service provided at MVRMC to help
the physician in diagnosing disorders of the brain. MVRMC has been providing this service
to the community since 1968. We are proud to announce that beginning in January, 2001 we
will have "state of the art" digital equipment to enhance our testing
capabilities.
EEG is primary in the evaluation of Epilepsy, seizure disorders, brain
injury and infection, cerebral vascular accidents (CVAs) , transient ischemic
attacks (TIAs), tumors, dementia, sleep disorders, and even brain death.
EEG is a non-invasive and painless procedure, which involves taking a
brief history of the patients complaints, measuring the patients head, applying electrode
leads to the patients scalp and then the running of the test. A neurologist reads the EEG
and reports the finding to the patients physician.
MRI / Open MRI
Magic Valley Regional Medical Center has the latest technology in
Magnetic Resonance Imaging. South central Idaho communities have the best of both worlds
when it comes to Magnetic Resonance Imaging, commonly referred to as MRI. An "open
architecture" MRI unit owned in part by Magic Valley Regional Medical Center
complements the existing high-density MRI unit located at Magic Valley Regional Medical
Center.
Open MRI
An open MRI is best suited to patients with special needs. The open
architecture design provides quality imaging services while reducing the anxious feelings
some patients experience in an MRI chamber. Children requiring an MRI examination will be
more comfortable due to the spacious opening and in view of a family member or friend
sitting right beside them. In addition, above average size patients who have not been able
to take advantage of conventional MRI services will now have this service available to
them. Performing motion studies of various joints has also been greatly enhanced with the
open MRI design.
High Density MRI
The high field strength MRI located at MVRMC is designed to produce
sharp images of small body parts such as the inner ear and perform neurological studies of
the brain and spinal cord. Due to its strong magnetic strength and speed, advanced studies
of arteries and veins are available to patients using the high field strength MRI. Magic
Valley Regional Medical Center has this technology available to serve the local community.
